In Memoriam

The Irish Center lost two very dear friends and leaders in the Irish community recently.

Irish Center board member John O’Neal passed away July 1. John served on the boards of several Irish organizations and reached out to bring individuals and organizations together to work toward common goals. He could be serious and focused, but many of us will remember John with a microphone in his hand, always ready to sing an Irish tune. At the Irish Center, whenever we hear the Irish National Anthem, we will likely be thinking of John and all he shared with us. Godspeed.

The family suggests gifts to Children’s Mercy Hospital’s Cancer Center.

Former board member Maureen Galey passed away passed away July 6, 2010. Maureen got excited about her family, politics, golf and the Irish. She was instrumental with developing the Irish Museum, especially fundraising, including chairing the first few Irish Galas. Many of us remember her sharing a bottle of Irish whiskey in the kitchen to toast the grand opening of the Irish Center on March 17, 2007, for which she worked so hard. Slainte.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the KU Medical Center Cancer Center, 2330 Shawnee Mission Pkwy., Westwood, KS 66205.
