John will receive “The Chieftan” award in honor of these qualities of historic Irish leaders, which he has exhibited in many, many years of service to the Irish community.

Guinness Master Brewer Fergal Murray will be Kansas City at several locations Sunday March 14 demonstrating how to pour the perfect pint and sharing the lore of Guinness.

What do you do with the whole family on St. Patrick’s Day?
Bring them to the Irish Center before or after the Parade! There will be family-friendly activities all day. While everyone’s having fun, we’ll also learn something about our Irish heritage!

Everyone is invited to come enjoy young people sharing their talents and their enthusiasm for the heritage at this non-competition showcase of area youth. No fee for participating. All welcome! For February: The Burning of Bridget Cleary by Angela Bourke, a nonfiction account of a woman suspected of being a witch and then killed for it in rural Tipperary in 1895. 2 pm A free program in recognition of the 1998 Good Friday Agreement between the Republic and Northern Ireland, all are invited to learn more about efforts to create peace and the history and the current state of the conflicts. Watch this space for presenters and more information. Sponsored by Children for Peace in Ireland. All welcome.
1 pm, free. Seán Kane will present a program on the Easter Rising of 1916 in Ireland.
6 pm Celtic whiskey tasting, dinner and entertainment.
Irish whiskey: single-malt, blended, mountain or spring water, peat fire, smokey or smooth. Think you know your Uisce Beatha (Water of Life) whiskey? Come taste several Irish whiskeys and learn the differences, the similarities and the nuances from the experts. Also enjoy some Celtic camaraderie, a dinner by Raglan Road and appropriate music for the evening.
